Call of Dragons Hero Progression: Levels, Stars, Skills and Who to Build

How hero progression works in Call of Dragons – levelling, stars, skills and talents – and how to choose which heroes deserve your limited resources.

Heroes lead every army in Call of Dragons, and they’re where a lot of your long-term power comes from. Because upgrade materials are limited, choosing who to build matters as much as how.

The four parts of a hero

Levels and talent points

Levelling a hero grants talent points. Hunting darklings is one of the best ways to level heroes quickly while also earning rewards.

Stars

Raising a hero’s stars lets them reach higher levels. Star-ups usually need hero-specific materials, so they’re the main limit on how many heroes you can fully develop.

Skills

Skill upgrades are often the biggest power jump for a hero. Prioritise:

  1. The main active skill of your primary hero.
  2. Key passives that boost your army.
  3. Secondary heroes’ skills after the primary is solid.

Who to build

Focus on a small group:

  • One main hero pair for your strongest army.
  • One gathering hero – see our gathering guide.
  • One or two backup heroes for a second army later.

Pick heroes whose talents match the unit type you train – see our unit types guide.

Swapping heroes later

New heroes will arrive over time. Switch only when a new hero is clearly better for your main army and you can bring them up to strength quickly. Half-built replacements usually perform worse than a fully built original.

Common mistakes

  • Spreading materials across many heroes.
  • Upgrading skills of heroes you won’t use.
  • Ignoring talents after levelling up.
  • Chasing every new hero.

Concentrate your resources and your main army will carry you through PvE, events and alliance fights. For talent planning, see our hero pairing guide.
