RAID Affinities Explained: Magic, Force, Spirit and Void
Affinities decide whether your hits land strong or weak and whether your debuffs stick. Here's the full affinity cycle and how to use it in every game mode.
Every champion and every enemy in RAID has an affinity. It is shown by the coloured icon next to their name, and it quietly changes the outcome of almost every battle. Ignore it and good teams lose to weaker ones; use it and you can punch well above your power level.
The cycle
- Force (red) is strong against Magic (blue).
- Magic (blue) is strong against Spirit (green).
- Spirit (green) is strong against Force (red).
- Void (purple) has no advantage and no disadvantage against anyone.
What advantage actually does
When you attack an enemy your affinity is strong against, you can land strong hits that deal extra damage.
When you attack an enemy your affinity is weak against, things go wrong:
- You can land weak hits, which deal reduced damage and cannot be critical hits.
- Your debuffs become less reliable, because weak hits can cause them to fail.
That second point is the one new players miss. A Decrease Defense champion with an affinity disadvantage can fail to land the debuff your whole team depends on.
Why Void champions are so valued
Void champions never suffer weak hits and never give enemies strong hits. That makes them consistent – especially for debuffers and Clan Boss teams, because the Clan Boss changes affinity every day. A Void debuffer works on all four days.
Using affinities in each mode
| Mode | How to use affinity |
|---|---|
| Campaign | Barely matters early; matters a lot on Hard and Brutal |
| Dungeons | Each boss has a fixed affinity – build teams that aren’t weak to it |
| Clan Boss | Affinity rotates daily; swap out champions weak to today’s boss |
| Arena | Check enemy teams before attacking and pick favourable match-ups |
| Faction Wars | Stages have mixed affinities; bring flexible champions |
Practical tips
- Before a hard fight, check the boss’s affinity first. Replace any key debuffer who is weak to it.
- Don’t avoid champions just because of affinity. A great champion with a bad match-up is often still better than a weak champion with a good one.
- Higher Accuracy helps offset the debuff problem, but it can’t remove weak hits. Our accuracy and resistance guide explains how to tune it.
- Build at least one strong champion per affinity over time, so you always have a counter.
Affinity is one of those systems that looks small and turns out to be everywhere. Start checking it before every boss fight and your win rate will jump.
