Clash of Clans Clan War Leagues Guide: Rosters, Attacks and League Medals

How Clan War Leagues work in Clash of Clans – the seven-day format, picking a roster, making every attack count and spending League Medals wisely.

Clan War Leagues (CWL) run once a month and are one of the most rewarding competitions in Clash of Clans. Your clan faces seven other clans in a week of back-to-back wars, and every star counts towards your league placement and rewards.

How CWL works

  • Clans are placed in a group of eight.
  • Over seven days, your clan fights each of the other seven clans once.
  • Each war is either 15 vs 15 or 30 vs 30, chosen when signing up.
  • Every participant in a war gets one attack.
  • At the end, clans are ranked by stars, and the top clans can be promoted while the bottom can be demoted.

Building the roster

Leaders pick which members take part in each day’s war. A good roster:

  1. Includes your strongest, most reliable attackers.
  2. Rotates members so more people earn medals – where the clan’s goals allow.
  3. Favours players who always use their attack. A missed attack is worse than a weaker one.

Making your attack count

You only get one attack per war, so prepare:

  • Scout the base carefully and plan your funnel – see our attack basics.
  • Hit a base you can reliably three-star, or the one your leaders assign.
  • Use potions like Power and Hero Potions if you have them.
  • Equip your best hero equipment – see our hero equipment guide.

Defending

Set your war base to one designed to prevent three stars. Our base building basics explain what makes a good war base.

League Medals

At the end of CWL, members receive League Medals based on the league and performance. Leaders can also distribute bonus medals to a limited number of members.

Spend medals in the League Shop on items that save the most time:

PriorityItem typeWhy
1Hammers and BooksHuge time savings
2Ore for hero equipmentDirectly boosts attacks
3Runes and potionsUseful for big pushes
4CosmeticsOnly with spare medals

See our magic items guide for using them well.

Common mistakes

  • Forgetting to attack. This hurts the whole clan.
  • Attacking too high and getting zero stars.
  • Using a farming base as your war base.
  • Spending medals impulsively.

CWL rewards consistency more than brilliance. Show up, attack carefully and help your clan climb – the rewards are well worth it.
