Clash of Clans Upgrade Order: What to Upgrade First After a New Town Hall

You’ve just hit a new Town Hall level and every building has a shiny upgrade arrow. Where should your builders go first? This order works across most Town Hall levels.

The golden rule: offence first

Stronger attacks mean more loot, which pays for everything else. So the first upgrades after a new Town Hall should improve your ability to attack.

1. Laboratory

Start the Laboratory upgrade immediately. Research is often the longest bottleneck in the game, and the Lab should never be idle.

2. Army Camps and Clan Castle

More housing space and stronger Clan Castle troops directly improve every attack.

3. Heroes

Keep at least one hero upgrading whenever you can. Heroes are a huge part of your attack strength – and of your defence.

4. Spell Factory and Barracks

Unlock new troops and spells that your army strategy depends on.

Then economy

• Storages – you need capacity for the expensive upgrades coming next.
• Collectors and mines – nice to have, but raiding usually gives more loot than collectors.

Then defences

Upgrade defences roughly in this order:

Builder management

• Never let builders sit idle. Queue a short upgrade before bed if a long one isn’t affordable yet.
• Use the Builder’s Apprentice and Lab Assistant on the longest timers.
• Magic items like books and hammers are best saved for the longest upgrades.

Don’t rush

Jumping to the next Town Hall before maxing your current one makes your base easier to attack and your army weaker in Clan War Leagues. Finish your offence and key defences first – the next Town Hall will still be there.
