Call of Dragons looks like a classic 4X game, but it has a few twists: free marching across most terrain, flying units, magic, and a strong focus on alliance territory. Here’s how to make your first week count.

Choosing a faction

There are three factions, and each favours different unit types and play styles:

FactionFlavourGood for
League of OrderHumans, magic and disciplinePlayers who like mages and versatile armies
SpringwardensElves and natureMobile, ranged play
WilderburgBeast-folk and raw strengthAggressive, frontline play

Your faction affects your units and some heroes, but you can still use heroes from other factions. Pick the style that sounds most fun – that’s what keeps you playing.

Heroes: pick a core and stick with it

Heroes lead your troops and each has a talent tree. Early on:

  1. Choose one main field hero pair and pour experience into them.
  2. Choose one gathering hero with resource talents.
  3. Don’t spend universal hero tokens on heroes you won’t use in a month.

Gathering and building

  • Keep all march slots busy. Idle marches are wasted resources.
  • Upgrade your City Hall steadily; most other buildings are gated behind it.
  • Research economic technology early – it pays for itself.

Alliance territory matters

Building inside alliance territory gives you safer gathering, faster movement and access to shared buildings. Join an active alliance on day one, move your city into their territory when invited, and help with alliance buildings.

Behemoths and darklings

Alliance Behemoth hunts and darkling forts give excellent rewards. Join every rally you can – even small contributions earn rewards and teach you how rallies work.

Quick dos and don’ts

  • Do claim your daily quest rewards and event milestones.
  • Do use healing rather than training new troops when possible – it’s cheaper.
  • Don’t attack bigger players outside of events; you’ll just lose troops.
  • Don’t forget your peace shield when you log off for long periods during conflicts.

A steady first week with a good alliance sets up everything that follows.
