Idle Heroes Beginner Guide: Fodder, Factions and Long-Term Planning
Idle Heroes punishes impatience. Learn how fodder works, how factions interact and which beginner mistakes cost the most resources.
Idle HeroesBeginner Guide Idle Heroes has been around for years and its systems run deep. The single most important lesson for beginners: fodder is everything. Here’s why, and how to plan around it.
What is fodder?
Upgrading a hero to higher stars requires feeding it other heroes – usually copies of the same hero and heroes of the same faction at specific star levels. Those heroes are called fodder. Because fodder requirements grow quickly at higher stars, careless feeding early on can lock you out of upgrades later.
Faction advantages
Heroes belong to factions, and factions counter each other:
- Forest, Shadow, Fortress and Abyss form a cycle of advantages.
- Light and Dark counter each other.
Faction advantage gives bonus damage, so swapping one hero to exploit it can turn a loss into a win.
Beginner priorities
- Pick a core team of heroes to build up, ideally ones with strong late-game value.
- Save higher-star heroes as fodder instead of feeding them to random heroes.
- Do daily content – campaign rewards, arena, guild boss, quests.
- Join an active guild for boss rewards and guild technologies.
Mistakes that hurt later
| Mistake | Why it hurts |
|---|---|
| Feeding 5-star heroes to non-core heroes | Fodder at higher stars is hard to replace |
| Spending gems on random summons | Events give far better value |
| Ignoring guild tech | Permanent stat boosts for whole factions |
| Building every new hero | Resources spread too thin |
Long-term thinking
Idle Heroes rewards players who plan weeks ahead. Before using a big resource, ask:
- Will this hero still be useful in a month?
- Do I need these heroes as fodder for something more important?
- Is there an upcoming event where these resources would be worth more?
Slow and careful wins in Idle Heroes.
