Brawl Stars is easy to pick up and surprisingly deep. These twelve tips cover the fundamentals that separate new players from confident ones.

Before the match

  1. Pick for the mode, not your favourite. A sniper that shines in Bounty can struggle in Brawl Ball. Check the mode and map first.
  2. Read the map. Long open lanes favour long-range brawlers; lots of walls and bushes favour short-range brawlers and assassins.
  3. Focus your upgrades. Spread coins and power points across a few brawlers rather than all of them, so you have at least one strong pick per role.
  4. Unlock Gadgets and Star Powers. Gadgets become available at power level 7 and Star Powers at power level 9 – they change how a brawler plays.

During the match

  1. Don’t run into bushes blindly. Enemies love hiding in them. Shoot into bushes or wait for teammates.
  2. Charge your Super safely. Supers charge as you deal damage. Poking from a safe distance builds Super without risking your life.
  3. Retreat to heal. Your health regenerates when you stop attacking and avoid damage for a moment. Backing off is not losing.
  4. Play the objective. In Gem Grab, the gem carrier should stay safe at the back; in Heist, damage on the safe wins; in Brawl Ball, passes beat solo runs.
  5. Watch the enemy Super. If an enemy’s Super is charged, play safer until they use it.

After the match

  1. Play with friends or club members. Team voice or quick chat dramatically improves coordination.
  2. Learn from losses. Did you die first? Overextend? Pick into a counter? One adjustment per game adds up.
  3. Use the Training Cave. Practice aim and Super angles without losing trophies.

Which brawlers to start with?

Early on, the brawlers you unlock first are genuinely solid. Shelly is a great all-rounder for Showdown, Colt teaches you aiming, and Bull is forgiving in close-range modes. Pick one of each range and build from there.

The most important tip of all: have fun. Matches are short, so there’s always another chance to try something new.
