AFK Arena Gear Guide: Rarities, Faction Bonuses and Who Gets Gear First
Gear is easy to overlook in AFK Arena. Learn how gear rarity and faction bonuses work, which heroes should get the best pieces and how to avoid wasted upgrades.
AFK ArenaGear Guide Gear in AFK Arena doesn’t get as much attention as heroes, but it quietly adds a lot of stats. Getting it right on your core heroes can be the difference between stuck and pushing forward.
Gear slots
Each hero has four gear slots:
| Slot | Typical stats |
|---|---|
| Weapon | Attack-focused |
| Head | HP and defence |
| Chest | HP and defence |
| Boots | Mixed stats, often including speed-related bonuses |
Rarity
Gear comes in increasing rarities, up to Mythic and beyond. Higher rarity means much bigger stats. Early on you’ll replace gear constantly; later, Mythic gear becomes the standard for your core heroes.
Faction bonuses
Higher-rarity gear can be tied to a faction. When a hero wears gear that matches their faction, they receive an extra bonus. That makes faction-matching gear more valuable than a random piece of the same rarity – especially on your main carries.
Where gear comes from
- Idle rewards and the campaign – the steady main source.
- The King’s Tower and other modes.
- Stores and events.
- Later modes offer higher gear tiers once your account is further along.
Who gets gear first
- Main damage dealers – extra attack translates directly into faster clears.
- Tanks – extra HP and defence keep the front line alive.
- Supports – survival matters, but they need it least.
- Everyone else – only after the core is equipped.
Upgrading gear
As you progress, gear can be upgraded to higher tiers. Upgrades are expensive, so:
- Upgrade gear on your core five first.
- Prioritise faction-matching pieces.
- Don’t upgrade gear on heroes you might replace soon.
Common mistakes
- Leaving good gear in your inventory. Use the quick-equip button after every big drop.
- Ignoring faction bonuses when choosing between two pieces.
- Spreading upgrades thin across many heroes.
Gear won’t replace ascension, but it multiplies it. Keep your core five equipped with the best pieces you have, and your campaign push gets noticeably easier.
